Administrative Review

An Administrative Review allows individuals to challenge a decision made by the Home Office regarding their visa application, particularly if they believe a case-working error was made. It is available for both applicants inside and outside the UK depending on the circumstances.

When Can You Apply for Administrative Review?
You can apply for an Administrative Review if:

  • You believe there was an error in the decision-making process of your visa application.
  • You were refused a visa or are unhappy with the conditions of your granted leave.

Your decision letter will specify if you’re eligible for this review. Not all refusals allow for Administrative Review; some might instead require an appeal.

Application Deadlines

  • Inside the UK: You must apply within 14 days of receiving your decision (or 7 days if detained).
  • Outside the UK: Applications must be submitted within 28 days of receiving the decision.

Application Process

  • Online Submission: You must apply online via the UK government portal.
  • Fee: The cost of applying is £80. The fee is refundable if your review is successful.
  • No New Evidence: You cannot submit new evidence; the review is based on the information from your original application.

Outcome and Processing Times

  • The review usually takes up to 6 months or more for a decision to be made.
  • If the review finds that an error was made, the decision will be overturned, and your visa or conditions will be corrected.
  • You will be informed if you are eligible for a second review.
