Child Student Visa

The UK Child Student Visa allows children aged 4 to 17 to study at an independent school in the UK. This visa, governed by the UK Immigration Rules, is designed specifically for young international students who wish to receive education in the UK before higher education.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age: Applicants must be between 4 and 17 years old.
  • Offer from an Independent School: Applicants must have an unconditional offer to study at an independent, fee-paying school in the UK, which must be an approved sponsor licensed by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
  • Parental Consent: Written consent from a parent or legal guardian is required, verifying that the child has permission to live and study in the UK.
  • Financial Support: Applicants must demonstrate they have sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living costs while in the UK. The amount required varies based on location and whether the child has a guardian in the UK.
  • Maintenance: If staying with a UK-based guardian, evidence of their relationship to the applicant and accommodation arrangements must be provided.

Application Process

  • Visa Application: Applications can be made online and usually need to be submitted at least three months before the intended start date of the course.
  • Biometric Data: Applicants will be required to provide biometric information (fingerprints and a photo) at a visa application centre.
  • Supporting Documents: These include the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the school, proof of financial support, parental consent, and any additional documents requested by UKVI.
  • Fees: The application fee is currently £363 if applying from outside the UK and £490 if switching to this visa from within the UK. Additionally, applicants must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, which grants access to the National Health Service (NHS).

Duration and Conditions

  • The visa duration typically aligns with the length of the course, with some allowance for stays before and after the course begins.
  • Restrictions: Child Student Visa holders are not allowed to work, claim public funds, or attend state-funded schools.
  • Extensions: The visa can be extended, provided the child continues to meet the eligibility requirements and has an offer to continue studies at an independent schoo
