Student Visa
To apply for a UK Student Visa, you need an unconditional offer from a licensed institution, which provides a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number. Eligible courses include full-time studies from below degree to degree level and above, part-time courses above degree level, English language courses (B2 level or above), and foundation programs for medical students. Some courses may also require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate for specific study fields.
Your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
After being offered a place in a course, your education provider will give you a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number. This reference number is essential for your visa application, as you’ll need to enter it during the process.
Course fee
For a UK Student Visa, you’ll need enough funds to cover your course fees for one academic year (up to 9 months), as listed on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). If you’ve held a valid UK visa for at least 12 months, you won’t need to prove these funds when reapplying.
Money to support yourself
To meet the UK Student Visa’s financial requirements, you need funds for living expenses, unless you’ve been in the UK for 12 months on a valid visa. The amount depends on your study location: £1,334 per month (up to 9 months) for London-based courses, or £1,023 per month for courses outside London.
English Language
To apply for a UK Student Visa, you must demonstrate English proficiency, either by passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) or by holding certain UK-based qualifications. The required level varies: for degree-level studies or higher, you need a B2 level on the CEFR scale; for below degree level, B1 is required. Higher Education Providers (HEP) can independently assess English proficiency for degree-level courses.
